COLLECTION

Urban Divinities

Sacred images…
Repeated, reiterated, decontextualized… reintroduced through countless and infinite variations.
Contemporary, urban, metropolitan.

The artist replicates the image of the Buddha endlessly, in a circular manner, always maintaining the same visual structure while introducing profound chromatic variations that affect forms and lines.

Within this visual mantra, the prayer is repeated and allowed to expand everywhere, changing and shedding its skin each time, influenced by everything that surrounds it, yet preserving the symbolic austerity and the universal nature of its message.

In this collection, the ancient iconography of the Buddha becomes an archetype, recurring from one work to the next with the same visual framework, yet each time recontextualized in a new guise.

Angelo employs an innumerable range of surfaces and backgrounds to convey his Mantra, which has transcended its original geographical and cultural boundaries to permeate every corner of the planet: plastered and flaking walls marked by urban graffiti, rusted metal sheets, advertising posters eroded by time on peripheral city walls. Acid, corroded, pixelated, printed chromatic tones form a heterogeneous fabric of materials for a single message, one that could be reiterated endlessly and no longer needs to be recognized or placed within a specific religious context, but is free to carry its meaning through the globalized world.

Angelo’s art represents the ultimate reconciliation between the spiritual realm and urban neurosis.

For him, the symbol is eternal; it belongs to no specific tradition. It is grounded in and constructed upon natural laws, valid in every era and in every place, circular, perpetually in motion, omnipresent.
